Club President - Jeff McMahon

Jeff  McMahon was recently re-elected to the role of Club President. Jeff joined the Club in 1991 and has since been President three times, Vice President three times and on Committee over a period of 20 years.

In taking on the Presidency this time Jeff’s intentions are straight forward: “I hope to encourage more of our members to become interested in Obedience, Rally-O and Agility Trialing.”

Pets as Therapy

As some of you may know, a number of the Club’s members and their dogs are Delta volunteers and Therapy dogs.

Kodiak and I have been visiting a local aged care facility on a weekly basis for four years. I felt Kodiak had something special to offer to the residents. We offer a pat, conversation, diversion, friendship and memories. We’ve encouraged residents to extend their hands, to walk, to talk, to smile, to laugh, and to remember and reminisce about their own animals.

Music to Calm Your Dog

I listened to a very interesting show on ABC Radio regarding using music to calm dogs.  The person being interviewed was Lisa Spector, a concert pianist who is a co-founder of “Through a Dogs Ear”.

She has a range of music proven to calm anxious dogs.  This music has been used successfully in Dog Shelters all over North America as well as some in Australia.

Dangers of Chocolate

A friend of mine recently had to have her dogs minded while she was in hospital (by another friend).

Unfortunately her younger dog somehow got into some chocolate and by the time this was discovered the chocolate had already been digested and there was nothing the vet could do.

Next Training Date

Sunday 4th February 2018

Following the Club's season-ending Fun Day on 3rd December, our Helpers and Instructors are now having a well-earned break for the break festive season and summer holidays.

Training resumes at the Club on Sunday, 4th February 2018, which will be a Puppy Joiner our 6-week Puppy Classes (for dogs aged under 6 months). Our first Adult Dog Joiner for 2018 for the Club's Responsible Dog Ownership Course (for dogs 6 months and older) will be on Sunday, 11th February.

Note: Due to the summer heat and humidity, Training and Registration start times are scheduled earlier from the 4th February until the end of Daylight Saving - please see the Training Times page on the Club website for details.
