Car Travel Tip

Dogs should be restrained with a proper fitting harness for their safety as well as yours.  The car windows should be wound up with 3 or 4 inches open for ventilation.  Serious eye damage can occur when dogs are allowed to travel with their heads out the window.  There could also be fatal consequences for the dog (that’s why humans are prohibited from having body parts hanging outside the car).

Check Chains & Fixed Collars

The check chain is a very useful training aide when used correctly.  "Check" means tightening and releasing the lead in quick succession (or snap-release).  The chain should be loose and not  kept tight at all times.  If it is kept tight all the time, it will encourage the dog to pull, thus being ineffective.

Caring for Dogs in Hot Weather

If recent high temperatures are anything to go by, then we’re in for a very hot summer.  The time to prepare is now.  If your dog spends the day out in the yard, then it’s important that he has shade and plenty of fresh cool water always available.

Next Training Date

Sunday 4th February 2018

Following the Club's season-ending Fun Day on 3rd December, our Helpers and Instructors are now having a well-earned break for the break festive season and summer holidays.

Training resumes at the Club on Sunday, 4th February 2018, which will be a Puppy Joiner our 6-week Puppy Classes (for dogs aged under 6 months). Our first Adult Dog Joiner for 2018 for the Club's Responsible Dog Ownership Course (for dogs 6 months and older) will be on Sunday, 11th February.

Note: Due to the summer heat and humidity, Training and Registration start times are scheduled earlier from the 4th February until the end of Daylight Saving - please see the Training Times page on the Club website for details.
